Pourquoi Pas

Pourquoi pas is a progressive rock band initiated by Maxime Goulet (guitar), formed with Jean-Philippe Martin (piano and keyboards), Sébastien Heppell (bass), and David Lepage (drums). Active from 1999 to 2001, the band performed several concerts and recorded an album.

Their repertoire consists mainly of classical music works — along with a few traditional and folk tunes — rearranged for a rock ensemble. Their aesthetic evokes the spirit of 1970s progressive rock, marked by strong energy, originality, and a sense of humor.

The album Pourquoi pas was recorded in 2001 in Montreal, at Cégep Marie-Victorin. The recording was done live, with all musicians playing together in just a few hours, capturing the band’s spontaneity and intensity, much like experiencing them in concert. Originally, the album was sold exclusively at the band’s live shows.

This release presents a remastered version of the original album. Some pieces that appeared on the 2001 recording could not be included here for copyright reasons. This publication is intended primarily as an archival release, making the music accessible to curious listeners who may come across it, and to mark the album’s 25th anniversary.
